Support a Newcomer
The Government of Canada requires all newcomers to be supported by a volunteer settlement group to help them adjust to life in Canada. These groups—made up of five or more people—play a critical role in helping LGBTQ+ refugees sponsored by Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAHs) find not just safety, but community.
Think of everything you might need if you had to start over in a new country: a friendly conversation over tea, guidance on using public transit, navigating healthcare, enrolling in English classes, or simply finding an affirming LGBTQ+ community. That’s the kind of care and connection settlement groups provide.
Are you a Canadian citizen interested in forming a volunteer settlement group? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Hive at info@canadahive.org.
